Via De Cristo
Who Should Attend? Via de Cristo is intended for people from every walk of life. It’s for church leaders and lay people who live strong and active lives in Christ, and it’s also for those who seek to be renewed and strengthened in their relationship with Christ and the people around them. Via de Cristo is open to married couples, and single men and women. Via de Cristo weekends are usually paired and run consecutively with men attending the first weekend, and women attending the second weekend. Keep an open mind and heart in making your decision to attend Via de Cristo. Like you, many attendees wondered if they should go. After they attended a weekend, they wondered why they waited so long. Now they want others to receive this wonderful gift from God. Please understand that their experience attending Via de Cristo was unique, and all the conversations in the world are not a substitute for your weekend. You need to experience a weekend yourself to obtain its full and life enriching value. Completed applications need to be sent by the liaison 8 weeks before the weekend. What is Via De Cristo? Via de Cristo originated as Cursillo on the 1940’s in Majorca in Spain. Cursillo (kur-see-yo) is a Spanish word for “short course.” This powerful movement spread quickly and has been adopted by many different denominations around the world today and is know by many different names. (http://cursillos.cs/en/liens.htm) The method is a highly structured three-day weekend designed to strengthen and renew the faith of Christian people and bring them to a new awareness of living in God's grace. The method is based on the fundamentals of Christianity, concentrating on the person and teachings of Jesus Christ. The Lutheran movement is called “Via de Cristo.” This is Spanish meaning “Way of Christ”. A Via de Cristo weekend begins on Thursday evening and ends on Sunday evening. The participants live, study, worship and commune together daily. Through 14 progressive talks, Via de Cristo gives attendees a living understanding of basic Christian truths. There is music and singing, food and fellowship, a time for laughter and a time for prayer. The focus is not on Via de Cristo itself, but on the local church. The objective of the movement is to inspire, challenge and equip an individual for Christian action in their homes, churches and communities. That is the great commission.
